Samuel Mollema – an Australian LEGO® Artist and model-maker, focused on building “Microscale” Cityscape projects of iconic local and international cities with the humble LEGO® brick.
At the scale of 1/2200, these marvelous LEGO City layouts are built to be accurate and full of detail – perfect for Architecture and LEGO enthusiasts alike.
Completing our first project, Melbourne Cityscape (Right) on one huge Baseplate after 6 years of trying out different designs, planning & sourcing LEGO, was the first step in the development of Scapebysam. Soon thereafter we needed to fine-tune the Planning & Design process, and after exhibiting the aforementioned project at Brickvention in 2019 for the first time, we also needed to ensure these projects were transportable…
Today, we use various on-sight surveying skills, satellite imagery & Digital software to design these projects, and have gone on to build various other scale models of cities from around Australia, as well as Internationally, With plenty more to come!
Samuel has always been intrigued by all things Architecture, City planning and layouts and of course, LEGO. When he was given his first LEGO Architecture Set at age 12, Samuel always wanted to build his own model of his home City, Melbourne. Thanks to being Home-educated from a young age, 6 years later at 18, he achieved his goal and exhibited the Melbourne Creation at various events across Victoria, winning awards and earning interest from fellow LEGO & Architecture enthusiasts alike, the latter encouraging Samuel to undertake Building Design at RMIT University.
Samuel put his skills to good use in and out of the course and produced a multi-award winning Design Project “Performing Arts Hub” alongside fellow student Mitchell Gleeson. (Right: Model of UCAP “PAH” Project) After Graduating in 2022, Samuel continued adding projects to his portfolio of Personal, Professional, Commissioned and Aviation based Projects to give you, the reader a good idea of our range of abilities to bring your dream Model to life.
Samuel is excited to share his passion and work with you to tailor-make, design and build your project using LEGO or Cardboard, at a scale suitable to your liking. We are based in Melbourne, Australia and can produce Instruction-based Commissions for you to find your own LEGO pieces to source in your own time, as well as fully built Models.
